Bill Honker

Album in the works!

Bill Honker is a singer, songwriter, teacher, and multi-instrumentalist who now lives in Colorado. He recently recorded an album of ten of his original songs at Folklore Studios in Albuquerque along with some of New Mexico's best musicians. The album, which should be released in the fall of 2026, will also include two recordings of his songs from his days with the Alan Munde Gazette. 

Bill is widely known as a bluegrass bass player, singer, teacher, and songwriter, most notably as a member of the Alan Munde Gazette from 2003 until 2015. He also toured with Billy Joe Foster and Special Edition from 1995 to 2003. Bill taught bluegrass bass at Camp Bluegrass in Levelland, TX from 2003 to 2010. He has also taught bass, guitar, and songwriting at a number of music camps and festivals.

Bill hosts a weekly bluegrass music radio show on KUPR-LP in Placitas, NM, which has aired since 2022. The show airs Saturdays at noon mountain time on kupr.org; past shows are available on the archive at the website.

Bill grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and began his songwriting and performing career while a student at the University of Oklahoma. Following his graduation, he moved to the Dallas, TX area and joined the band Roanoke with Joe Carr, Gerald Jones, and Dan Huckabee. Following Roanoke, Bill played with a series of north Texas bands, including Lone Star Grass, Grounds for Divorce, the Cooke Brothers, and the Stone Mountain Boys.

Bill was also an active member of the Dallas Songwriters Association for his many years in north Texas, and he garnered numerous songwriting awards for his songs over the years.

Bill lived in Placitas, NM from 2018 through 2025 and performed in a number of bands in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area during that period.
